Kara's long path to opening a Yoga Studio began in NYC with stints in International Comms, training at the International Center of Photography, and then working as a freelance photographer. Her fiancé convinced her to move to the Midwest (first Milwaukee and then to her beloved Chicago) and she eventually transitioned into Advertising where she found her stride and served as Director of Project Management for a few Chicago agencies.
After a corporate layoff in November 2022, Kara saw the moment as an invitation to realign her career with her lifelong passion: yoga. Leveraging her 18 years of organizational experience, her love of the practice, and enlisting a yoga studio consultant she opened Yodega—a dream rooted in years of dedication to both personal growth and community. Opening the studio in the Logan Square neighborhood, where she's lived since 2007 and raised 3 children, has resulted in the development of an absolutely beautiful community of neighbors and yogis.
Kara has been practicing yoga since 1998. Since moving to Chicago in 2005, she’s practiced in studios across the city, eventually earning her 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Certification in March 2024. She strives to develop athletic sequences that challenge you to play with the body, mind & spirit puzzle. She loves incorporating inversions and arm balances and trying to surprise you with unusual poses. When she’s not at the studio, she's shuttling kids to soccer and volleyball, or maybe even off the grid, climbing mountains in Alaska.
